Building your makeup bag

We’ll focus on a simple, fresh, everyday look, with an optional touch of shimmer for those who want a little extra glow. Here are the products you’ll need for the masterclass. I tried to link all the products on my Linktee site. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

  • Foundation or tinted moisturizer

  • Bronzer (powder or creme)

  • Blush

  • Eye brow pencil

  • Eye brow gel

  • Setting powder

  • Makeup brushes- brushes are essential in a “filtered” makeup application.

  • Brushes needed, foundation, blush, bronzer, powder, concealer, and eyeshadow. I will share a video before class on what each brushes purpose is to help you choose.

  • Mascara

  • Neutral Eyeshadow palette (optional, you could use your bronzer)

  • Eyeliner ( optional, you could use a neutral eyeshadow palette)

  • Eyeshadow sparkly topper (optional but fun)

  • Stick sculpting bronzer (optional)

  • Concealer (optional)

  • Beauty sponge (optional)

  • Buying mini sizes in makeup is a good way to try something and decide if you truly love it before investing in the full size. I do this whenever it is an option. Plus, we use light touches of makeup, so most of these products will last you for a couple years.

These are all the products that we will use for our look. I kept it to basic makeup items that most people have in a makeup kit. You will learn techniques of how to apply these.

A list of recommended products

that have been tested by Michele or a makeup artist I trust

Foundation

Drugstore- These are significantly less expensive than high end foundations. $7.00 to $13.00 range.

High end/ Luxury Foundations- The products listed range from $39 to $69. Sephora and Ulta also carry other luxury options at lower price points that are absolutely worth testing. I chose products that are consistently highly rated and perform well for many people.

That said, makeup is personal. What works beautifully for one person may not work the same for another. Use these recommendations as a starting point, test when possible, and choose what feels best for you.

  • Haus Labs- everyone loves this. Good for dry or oily skin. It gives a pretty soft glow finish to the skin, that does not turn greasy. This is a good value high end foundation. Available at Sephora. —MH

  • Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Eaze Drop Stick Blur + Smooth Tint Stick Foundation- Fenty makes a lot of highly rated products. They are one of the more affordable luxury brands. Stick foundations are quick and easy, great for travelers.

  • Armani Luminous Silk- this is a cult favorite for many years. Highly used by bridal makeup artist. Best for Normal, dry or oily skin. Available at Sephora. Can buy this in a mini. It will last you a long time. —MH ride or die

  • Dior Forever Skin perfect 24H Multi-use Foundation stick- this is super easy to travel with, and gives a beautiful finish to the skin. Recommended for Dry to combo skin. Natural blurred finish. Available at Sephora or Ulta —MH ride or die

  • Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation- this is a good value, high-end foundation. Good for all skin types. Makeup artist use this for athlete photo shoots, it holds up well outside. It gives a natural luminous finish. Medium coverage. Available at Sephora or Ulta —MH (if I had a better shade match it would be a ride or die, I need to mix the one I have with a lighter color to make it work)

  • Dior Forever Matte- long lasting. Transfer proof. This is great for anyone that needs to wear the foundation for a long period of time. Matte Finish. Good for Oily and combination skin. It can be used for dry skin with a good skin care routine is applied beforehand. Available at Sephora or Ulta —MH

  • Nars Sheer Glow Foundation- often described as the most beautiful foundation on the market. The shades tend to run on the warm side. Not the best choice for true cool toned gals. I went through an entire bottle, and looked forward to using it. All skin types. —MH

*** Oily gal tip- look for matte or natural finishes. Then powder the areas during application that tend to get “greasy” through the day.

*** Dry or mature skin gals- tend to like the glowy or natural finish foundations.

*** Normal gals can wear both

*** Wear what you love and you will always choose right. As far as the trends go though, light to medium coverage is what is trending. Full coverage is used more for a night time glam look.

Tinted Moisturizer

Use this instead of Foundation. Perfect if you want very little coverage & don’t feel comfortable with foundation. It lightly evens the skin and gives that soft, filtered look without feeling like makeup.

Concealer

High end/Luxury

Drugstore- these are drugstore options often recommended by working makeup artist. Prices range from $5.00 to $12.00

Bronzer

  • Gucci Sun-kissed Glow powder bronzer- Sephora. This looks really pretty and natural on the skin. I use the lightest shade. ——MH ride or die

  • Hour Glass bronzer- Ulta or Sephora — MH

  • Armani Luminous Silk Creamy Bronzing powder- Sephora —— MH

Drugstore

Bronzer sticks- optional. These are used to add extra depth, sculpting, and glow to the skin. We will top them with powdered bronzer for class. This helps your makeup last longer.

Eye shadow- neutral palette

Luxury/High end

Shimmery toppers- you can get a complete shimmery eye look with these palettes

Check’s all the boxes palettes:

Luxury/High end: Viseart is the best matte and shimmer palette I know of. This brand is used by makeup artist and is very high quality. The price is less than most luxury eye shadows and they run sales.

  • Viseart Praline- Color Praline. You can get this for less on Viseart website, they have great sales too. This is a great value for a high quality eyeshadow. The color Praline sells out often because it is so popular. This is $44.00 on Viseart website.

Drugstore- the Colorpop options include a pretty shimmer. This is a very popular drugstore eyeshadow.

Colorpop set- Most popular nude color stories. These have been around for years and always get very high reviews.

Drugstore

Eyeliner

A rich brown shade is universally flattering.

High end/Luxury-

Urban Decay- creamy, water proof, long wearing and easy to use. Once a year, this brand goes on sale 50% off, so it is a nice one to like then stock up on when on sale. Follow me, and I will let you know when it goes on sale. ——MH ride or die

Sweed- women owned small brand. Beautiful colors. My ride or die color is “Golden Beetle”. This is best bought from Sweed online or Amazon for quicker delivery. ——MH ride or die

Drugstore

Maybelline Tattoo studio

Setting powder

Luxury/High end

Huda loose powder— — MH ride or die

Drugstore

Maybelline FitMe loose setting powder

Mascara

Look at your natural eyelashes and choose the color that matches them best. If I’m being honest when I look at my own lashes, they’re black, and that’s true for most people. That’s why black mascara is the most popular and widely sold shade.
If your lashes are naturally lighter, brown mascara is available in all of these brands and can look very soft and natural.

High end/Luxury-

I recommend a tubing mascara. It rinses off with water, does not smudge with good makeup application. Since it rinses off easily with warm water, it is gentler on your eyelashes and allows them to grow longer.

Drugstore- Drugstore mascara is known to be very dependable and is a great place to save money. Many affordable formulas perform just as well as higher-end options. Drugstore brands are also just beginning to release tubing mascaras. I’m including one that was recently released and has received positive early reviews, though it hasn’t yet had long-term wear testing.

Brow products

Brow glue & brow pencil- If you have full, thick brows, you may only need a brow glue or gel to keep the hairs neat and in place. If your brows are more sparse, a combination of brow glue and a pencil can help add definition while still maintaining a natural look. A softly defined brow makes a noticeable difference in your overall appearance and facial expressions.

Nyx brow glue (drugstore)- clear or tinted. Tinted works well if you want to cover grays

Kosa brow pencil nano- MH ride or die

Makeup brushes

BK Beauty discount code for 20% off: RunGlowRepeat

These brushes are all MH ride or die

Eyelash curler- This makes a big difference and they are not all equally good. I personally like the one by BK Beauty. A women owned small business. The founder of this brand has offered our group a 20% discount

Makeup brushes- a good make up brush and proper technique and blending gives you that airbrushed look. BK Beauty is by far my favorite brand. Many of their sets are on sale at moment, and the code they gave us gives you a 20% off discount on top of the sale price. This is a great value. Our code is only good through February 1st.
